What is Emergency Management?
Comprehensive Emergency Management consists of four phases:
- Preparedness requires understanding the effects of disasters or emergencies, the actions that must be taken to respond to and recover from these events, as well as what can be done to mitigate future losses. Preparedness is taking the steps to ensure your business and employees are prepared for the "unexpected" and know what needs to be done in an emergency situation.
- Mitigation involves taking the steps to prevent an emergency or disaster or, at least reduce your business’ vulnerability.
- Response is handling the threat or the occurrence of an emergency or disaster.
- Recovery is restoring all aspects of business operations damaged or interrupted by an event.
